Backpacks Viandar 15 & 25 in Action

Dawn-Green

A vibrant tone that shifts with the warmth of the light, ranging from light green in the midday sun to light blue under cool LED lighting. Inspired by old cast-iron machinery, wooden crates, and bags from the 1950s. Unisex, young, modern, and distinctive, it creates a calm and fresh accent between city and mountain. Discover why Dawn-Green feels different the moment you see it.

Copper-Beige

A warm, authentic natural tone with a clear reference to the alpine origins of the backpacks. Copper-Beige evokes aged cotton fabrics and classic mountaineering equipment of the 1940s – reduced, honest, and functional. The colour tone was taken from the inside of an approximately 80-year-old cotton backpack, where the material had been protected from fading for decades.

Dark-Blue

A deep, confident blue that conveys calm and reliability – functional and equally suited for urban and alpine use. Since the 1930s, dark blue has shaped uniforms, workwear, and technical textiles – timeless, robust, and never out of fashion. It fits perfectly well with a business suit in everyday professional life as with an outdoor jacket in the mountains.

Nola Viandar 25 named Test Winner by Outdoor Magazine 04/2026

The Nola Viandar 25 has been selected as Test Winner by Outdoor Magazine, the largest and most established outdoor publication in the German-speaking world.

In a large comparative test with backpacks from many established global brands, the Viandar 25 achieved the top ranking. The editors described the model as a “SUPERB NEWCOMER” and wrote:

“Behind the new Swiss label Nola is one of the most talented backpack developers: David Freitag. It's no surprise that the Viandar 25 impresses down to the smallest detail. Whether hiking, climbing, travelling or in everyday life, no other model is so versatile. The carrying system combines efficient load transfer with a perfect fit, while the hip belt and narrow but very comfortable shoulder straps allow freedom of movement even when scrambling. Ventilation is good, and everyone loves the vintage look.”

The Viandar backpacks were developed with a clear focus on functional design, precise construction and durable materials. The recognition from Outdoor Magazine confirms this approach and provides independent validation of the product’s performance and versatility in practical use.

Why the Colours Look Different in some Pictures and Videos?

Prototype Colors Explained

You might notice some unusual color combinations in our video and photos. That’s because the prototypes were built using the final materials for full performance testing - but not in the final colorways. Custom-dyed fabrics require a 1'000 meter minimum per colour, so for prototyping we used existing leftover stock from our supplier. Rest assured: the backpacks you'll receive will feature the correct colours and finishes as shown in the final product visuals.

Material Contrast and Functionality

Looking at the prototypes with the “wrong” colours - you can clearly see the different materials in use. The beige areas are the main fabric, while the black parts are made from 4-way stretch mesh. This contrast makes it easy to spot the large pockets and the ventilated zones on the back panel. For the final product, we’re going for a true vintage look by keeping all visible fabrics in the same colour - just like in the old days, when backpacks were made from a single fabric type used throughout. On Nola, zippers are discreet, either hidden through clever construction or matched in colour to blend into the design. Only the webbing straps stand out, as a subtle nod to vintage gear, where leather or differently woven straps were often used.

Inspired by the Past, Built for Today

Rooted in true Swiss mountain heritage, Nola is inspired by the golden age of alpine exploration - when gear was simple and being outside was part of daily life. We create high-performance outdoor equipment for our time outside.
