Why Retro Style
At Nola, our style is unmistakably retro - a nod to the golden era of ountaineering in the 1930s and 40s. This was a time when adventure was raw, gear was simple but built to last, and exploring the mountains was driven by passion, not luxury.
This era holds a special place in my heart. My grandfather grew up in Graubünden, Switzerland, and spent his life discovering every hidden valley and peak in the region. He told me endless stories of his adventures - how he climbed rugged peaks, skied untouched slopes, and trekked for kilometres because back then, not many could afford cars or fancy transport. If you wanted to reach a summit, you walked.
As a kid, I hung onto his stories, and as I grew older, I realized how much these times represented something special: pure adventure, optimism, resilience, and a deep love for nature. Luckily, I still have his old photo album, filled with treasures captured in black-and-white shots from those days - rugged wool sweaters, leather hiking roots with forged metal spikes, timeless mountain style. That’s what inspires Nola’s retro aesthetic.
Our products blend the best of the past with modern technical progress. We create unique products that capture the essence of those golden times while incorporating the latest innovations in technologies, materials and sustainabilty.
Join us on our journey, where every piece of gear tells a story because some things never go out of style: the spirit of adventure, the love for the nature, and gear that’s built to last.
