Inclusivity
At Nola, we don’t question diversity and equal rights - every human being has equal rights, no matter their background. What truly matters to us are honesty, passion, and dedication. While inclusivity is naturally reflected in our brand and product development, we believe in focusing on shared values and genuine commitment rather than labels.
Inclusive Branding & Design
From the very beginning, we have made sure that Nola embodies an identity that is gender-neutral and inclusive. For the younger people belonging to Generation Z, a slightly feminine name is often perceived as gender neutral. Our brand name has a soft, feminine sound, ending in “-a,” a common feature in many female names around the world, reinforcing our commitment to inclusivity. In addition, our logo mascot, a Swiss Brown Cow, is a female animal, subtly reinforcing the theme of inclusivity while remaining rooted in our Swiss heritage.
Our backpacks are
designed to adapt to different body shapes, considering variations in hip, shoulder and chest structures to ensure comfort for all genders. This was particularly challenging given the global anthropometric differences - our products are manufactured in Vietnam, where the average height is among the shortest in the world, yet they are also designed for consumers in the Netherlands, where the average height is among the tallest. This required careful ergonomic adjustments to create a fit that works for a wide range of body types.
Gender-neutral Aesthetics and Functionality
Nola does not conform to traditional gendered colour choices. Our designs are meant to be universally appealing. In addition, our packs are mostly symmetrically designed to be equally comfortable for right- and left-handed users, eliminating any unconscious bias in usability.
A Story of Togetherness & Equality
Our brand story is inspired by the founder's grandfather and his experiences in the Swiss Alps in the 1940s and 50s. Even then, the joy of outdoor adventure was shared equally by men and women, a sentiment reflected in the imagery we use. By showing both men and women in the outdoors together, our message is that outdoor exploration is universal and should be equally accessible to everyone.
Through inclusive design choices and gender-neutral branding, Nola creates products that are truly for everyone, regardless of gender, origin, background, or body type.
